Maimon and the Mongoose Band
Third Ear
(Skank Records)
Mongoose is truly a fantastic band. Since their 1998 debut, "Soul Deliverance," it's been obvious that they are extremely special.
Their second offering came in 2000, a 5-song demo EP called "Special Edition." Containing five crucial tunes, it also boasted the introduction of Steel Pulse's original bassie, Ronnie "Stepper" McQueen, to the band.
Since then they've been playing gigs but nothing was happening in regards to new recordings. In early 2005 we decided to change that and put out a full-length disc on Skank Records.
Now known as "Maimon and the Mongoose Band," "Third Ear" is the result of that decision. It's been over two years in the making with many trials and tribulations involved, but the time has come and believe me when I say that this is an awesome disc.
Kicking off with "Come To Pray" then "1945," "Third Ear" contains almost one hour of crucial vibes."You Are" is next, a righteous slow skank with crossover appeal. You'll also find a catchy hip hop reggae tune called "Shakin' The Tree."
The remaining tracks may have different tempos but they're all strictly roots, with a modern edge.
Seven brand-new tunes, plus the re-working of four of the five tracks from "Special Edition," plus "Slumber City" from "Soul Deliverance" comprise this crucial cd. Maimon's lyrics are conscious and uplifting, his vocals have never sounded better and the band is tighter than tight.
It's an honor to have "Third Ear" released on Skank Records. Maimon And The Mongoose Band are poised for the next step. Get ready.
