JOHNNY CLARKE
Dreader Dread, 1976-1978
(Blood And Fire)
What else can be said when Blood And Fire puts out a Johnny Clarke CD? Great packaging
(as usual), with cool pictures and informative liner notes. Then there's the music.
As the title says, this is "Dreader Dread" from the mid-'70s. Thirteen tracks and just under
60 minutes from one of Reggae's all-time great vocalists.
Things start off with his cover of Peter Tosh's "I'm The Toughest" (called "Top Ranking" here),
and from there it's simply crucial roots 'til the final track, a cover of Bob Marley's "Time Will Tell."
In between, you'll find extended versions of "Love Up Your Brothers And Sisters," "African Roots,"
"Every Knee Shall Bow" and "Play Fool Fe Get Wise," as well as seven other killer tracks.
As has been the case since their first re-issue in 1994, Blood And Fire has once again outdid itself.
This one's another must-have from one of the industry's top labels.
