NATTY NATION
cLUB vIVA, February 18, 2000
Let me tell ya, Natty Nation is one kick ass band and they put on an
outstanding show at a packed Club Viva last night. If you like your
roots reggae with a hard edge, these guys will blow you away.
The show started late (around 10:30) but it was well worth it, as NN
played til after 1 a.m. These guys lay down some of the wickedest beats
around. They are truly on of the greatest touring bands out there. They
are tight!
They started off with an obscure Burning Spear song (and it jammed!)
They went for about 10 minutes gettin the groove down. Then they played
"Fertile Lands" from Earth Citizen and they mixed in Ziggy's "One Bright
Day" in the middle of it, it was killer! They changed their songs up,
doing extended mixes, dubs - everything was crucial.
During the break the DJ kept playing fast soca which was completely out
of place (He did it afterwards, too). It was way too loud and was
basically ridiculous. But hey...
Second set started with "Journey Has Just Begun" and they extended it to
around 10 minutes. It was sounding great. Right into "Music" and the
place was going crazy. Ras Jeffrey was telling the audience how it's
nice to be in the home of the Super Bowl champions and the place was
eating it up!
Seriously, if these guys come to your area, you've got to go see em.
They are one of the tightest bands out there and they're guaranteed to
drop a wicked dose of Roots, Rock Reggae on ya. And they're also 5 of
the coolest guys around. Do yourself a favor and check em out...
