LUCIANO

Club Viva, August 18, 2004

Luciano and crew blazed through town last night and put on just a fantastic show at Club Viva. Really blew me away...

Viva's a small, basement club and there was a decent crowd, but not packed. The ticket prices were $25 for men and $20 for ladies, which is higher than I've ever seen there, so maybe that scared some people off, I don't know. but it was well worth it, believe me...

At 10:30 things started with the Jah Messenger Band laying down some crucial vibes. I forgot Dean Fraser was gonna be there and he came out and just blew the place away. Really incredible musician. just awesome. Played for a bit, then the talented female vocalists took turns (the Far East Singers), then Mikey General came out and sang a few tunes and sounded really good. then it was time for Luciano, and the messenger did not disappoint... this guy's vibe is so uplifting and his music is so good, it's just a shame the place wasn't packed. the newspaper in town has turned its back on reggae and it's a real shame more people don't know what's going on. Oh well...

Early on he put his hand on the low ceiling kinda laughing and acting like he was caged in. he still moved around the entire night, but usually he climbs all over the place and with 10 or 11 people on stage, there's just no room to move there. hard to believe where he gets his energy from, though it's obviously all from the joys of serving Jah. he's truly a "messenger," as his songs are joyously sung to spread the message of one love and His Imperial Majesty. there was just such a positive vibe in the room while he was on stage, it was awesome. Very, very uplifting...

it was a long day and night, and the memory's not like it used to me, but some of the songs he played were: It's me Again Jah, Good God, Your World And Mine, Why, In this together (at the end), Stay Away and the title track from his latest (Serious Times), Legalize it - though he didn't light up! - and Who Could it Be. Every song was great as the band really sounded tight. One of the best in the business, no doubt about that...a brother named Joseph Israel also came on at the end and took the mic and Luciano was looking at him smiling and nodding in agreement...

He went til almost 1:15, so the entire show was 2 hours and 45 minutes, and just a positive, uplifting time from beginning to end. Then afterwards they got a table for him to sign autographs and connect with his fans and it's just great to see him do that. he's a one-of-a-kind performer and it was just a blessing to be able to witness him in such an intimate venue....

If he's in your area, don't even think twice about seeing him. He'll blow ya away...

Keep skankin...
